Community Awareness Night As I am sure you are aware, the Internet is a powerful tool, and when used improperly, it can be extremely harmful to a child's choices and self-esteem. As a Sunnyville community, we wish to spread awareness of these dangers and how to best prevent them. We are holding an Internet Awareness Night on Thursday, April 5, 2012.It will begin at 6:30 in the Media Center (Room 20.b)We are privileged to be hearing from "The Cyber Safety Expert," Rob Nickel.After Mr. Nickel is through speaking, our school's media specialist will work with parents in an interactive experience, demonstrating tools that may be used to block harmful websites and teach children about online safety and etiquette. Links to extend these activities at home and involve children can be found below.Refreshments will be served. This is important information, so please come join us for a night of awareness! It is safe to allow your child to navigate and allows interactive games and activities to teach your child about NetEquite (Internet etiquette) and how to avoid dangers like adult websites, predators, and Cyber Bullies. Give it a click and look around! Share it with your child to help keep them safe: http://www.netsmartzkids.org/ Other good sites include the Webonauts, an Internet safety and etiquette program for children created by PBS, as well as Safety Land - a creation of AT&T to help children make smarter decisions online. http://pbskids.org/webonauts/ http://www.att.com/Common/images/safety/game.html There are also many good videos available online, geared towards children, that would be worth the time taken to sit down and watch them.
